Bloomin' Barbeque and Bluegrass

Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass, May 14-15, 2010
Sevierville, Tennessee
Sevierville's Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass, an International Festival & Events Association award-winning event, recently announced its 2010 entertainment line-up. The event will be held May 14 & 15, 2010 and feature a line-up of up-and-coming entertainers as well as bluegrass legends. The concerts are free and are presented courtesy of the City of Sevierville.
Friday night's line-up (May 14) includes: Brand New Strings (5pm), Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier (6:30pm) and Blue Highway (8pm). Saturday's bluegrass line-up begins at 1pm and includes: Mountain Ruckus (1pm), Audie Blaylock (2pm, 4pm), Darrell Webb (3pm, 5pm), Tony Rice Unit (6:30pm) and The Dan Tyminski Band (8pm). Probably best known as the musicians behind the song "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the motion picture "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?," this will be the second to last opportunity to see the original Dan Tyminski Band in concert before the group splits up to pursue individual projects.
Of course, there are other ways to enjoy bluegrass besides just listening to concerts. Hands on opportunities are also available. The Bluegrass Music Tent, part of an expanded Kids' Zone that is sponsored in part by The Music Outlet, gives kids (and kids at heart) the chance to touch and play bluegrass instruments such as banjos, fiddles and more with the help of onsite instructors. This attraction will be open until 9pm each day of the event.
Another musical highlight of Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass is the 6th Annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition Finals to be held on May 15. Finalists from around the nation will sing their hearts out for a chance to win prize money, a recording session in Nashville, Tennessee and a guitar autographed by Dolly Parton. This competition, the only one of its kind that festival organizers know of, honors the songwriting of Dolly Parton. Competitors, male and female, must sing a song written by Dolly Parton (there are over 3,000) and do so in their own style (rock, rap, country, bluegrass, swing, soul, etc.). Past winners have come from as far away as Maryland and Louisiana.
Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass is a family-friendly event that brings barbeque cook teams from around the nation to compete for $15,000 in cash and prizes. The hours of operation are May 14 5-10pm, May 15 10am-10pm.
Admission and concerts for Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass are free. For more information about Bloomin' Barbeque & Bluegrass and spending the weekend in Sevierville, call (865) 453-6411 or visit us online at www.BloominBBQ.com.
